Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a GPS tracker?

If you want to see the location of an object or person (like your car, dog, child) at any time and also track his movement, you will need a GPS, but it will be far more expensive and you’ll have to charge the battery often.

If you need something that will help you find an item that is usually just misplaced somewhere around you (like keys, wallet, backpack or hiding cat), Bluetooth finder is the better choice, because it’s cheaper and you will have no hassle with the battery. Because of the limited range, you won’t be able to see the live location of your item if it’s far, but you will be able to see where you last had it, so you can go back and retrieve it. And with Out of Range Alerts, Chipolo will even remind you to take your items, so you don’t leave them behind in the first place.

Do I have to keep Bluetooth always active on my phone?

Yes. The Chipolo is a Bluetooth tracker and needs Bluetooth (and the Chipolo app) to keep a connection with your phone. An active Bluetooth connection allows your phone to regularly update the last known location of your Chipolo on a map in the Chipolo app so that if you ever do lose it, you’ll know right where to look for it.

Does Bluetooth drain the phone’s battery?

The Chipolo app is designed to use as little of your phone’s battery as possible. Keeping Bluetooth on and the Chipolo app active in the background of your phone should not use up more than 1 – 2 % of your phone’s battery per day. If you think Bluetooth drains your phone’s battery, check the other Bluetooth devices you have connected to see how much battery power they need to stay active.

What is the range of Chipolo?

Chipolo works by connecting to the Bluetooth signal on your phone. Chipolo’s Bluetooth range can extend up to 200 ft (60 m) when there is a clear line of sight from your phone to the Chipolo.

What if I lose something?

Chipolo is a Bluetooth finder that is perfect for finding misplaced things around your home or office, but you will need to do some extra detective work if your item ever gets truly lost. You can check the last known location on a map in the Chipolo app and retrace your steps from there, but you won’t be able to ring the lost item once it is out of Bluetooth range.
